Yoga Philosophy and Meditation
Hatha Yoga is just one part of the ancient system of Yoga that has been practiced for thousands of years. The Rishis (seers), who developed the techniques of Yoga in ancient India, sought a way to experience their ultimate, true nature. Yoga, which comes from the Sanskrit root yuj meaning union or joining, was their means of uniting ordinary, individual consciousness with jiva, higher consciousness, our Inner-Self.
There are many forms or paths of yoga, all ultimately bring us to the same realization of the Inner-Self. Although they may appear different in form, all the various paths include practices that bring us to the direct experience of that state of being inside. In Hatha Yoga, we practice physical postures with yogic discipline to surrender or deeply release mental, emotional, and physical tensions. Hatha Yoga is not an end-all in itself, but the foundation for the deeper practices of meditation.
In our Hatha Yoga Teacher Training programs, we offer practical tools to bring the ancient spiritual wisdom of Yoga into our western culture.
