Four people sit on cushions on a stone wall by the ocean, meditating or relaxing and looking at the water.
  • Begin each day with a guided yoga session focused on a new theme, from rolling methodologies that promote hydration and sensation to alignment practices that protect your hips and standing postures. Afternoon classes expand on these foundations, combining movement with insights into the physiology of yoga.

  • Explore the yogic perspective on the mind and receive a lineage mantra passed down through the ShambhavAnanda tradition. Craft your own sacred Rudraksha mala from seeds grown at the ashram, join in a Vedic fire ceremony, and participate in guided meditations morning and evening. These empowered practices connect you to an unbroken lineage of meditation.

  • Beyond the mat & cushion, discover the Big Island’s stunning landscapes: hike cloud forests, snorkel vibrant reefs, and walk through beachside oases alive with wildlife. Optional excursions may take you to active volcanoes, hidden waterfalls, white and black sand beaches, or even stargazing atop the world’s tallest mountain (measured from the ocean floor). The opportunities are endless.

Daily Schedule at the Retreat

A woman and a girl practicing yoga or meditation together in a room with wooden flooring, sitting on mats, with the woman smiling at the camera. The woman is wearing a black dress and a headband, and the girl is dressed in dark clothing. There are also images of a plate with cut papaya, banana slices, and a bowl of porridge with banana slices, and a woman meditates with two others in front of a colorful mural of a waterfall surrounded by flowers, all sitting in a seated meditation pose.

A Day at the Retreat

Each day is designed to nourish your body, mind, and spirit while giving you space to rest, explore, and connect. All sessions are optional—move at your own pace, immerse fully, or take time to simply be.

6:15 – 7:15 AM: Guided Yoga, Meditation & Fire Ceremony

Start the day with a flowing blend of guided yoga and meditation. Some mornings include a Vedic fire ceremony, one of the most ancient and empowering practices of the ShambhavAnanda tradition. Yoga themes vary daily, weaving together hip health, standing asanas, and techniques for building sensation and awareness.

7:15 – 7:45 AM: Breakfast

Fresh fruit, home-baked goods, and savory vegetarian selections, enjoyed together in the ashram community.

7:45 – 8:15 AM: Seva (Selfless Service)

Participate in a short period of seva—helping care for the ashram through simple, mindful service. This is a way of grounding your retreat experience in gratitude and connection.

8:30 AM – 12:00 PM: Morning Block

Dive deeper into the practices with rotating offerings:

  • (Optional) Lectures on awakening sensation in yoga and hydrating the body at a cellular level through rolling methodologies

  • Techniques for buoyancy in hip openers and maintaining hip health

  • Hands-on adjustments in standing postures

  • Local excursions—hikes through cloud forests, white-sand beaches, or other island adventures

12:15 – 1:15 PM: Lunch

A wholesome vegetarian meal to restore and refuel.

1:30 – 4:30 PM: Afternoon Block

Afternoons offer a balance of philosophy, practice, and creativity:

  • Workshops such as Rudraksha mala making (with seeds grown on the ashram)

  • Teachings on mantra, the yogic mind, and surrender

  • Guided yoga and meditation sessions with new focal points

  • Explorations into the philosophy of the heart, tension, and release

5:00 PM: Dinner

A homemade, multi-layered vegetarian feast shared in community.

Evenings & Days Off

Some evenings are reserved for quiet reflection or satsang, while full days off are built into the retreat to explore the island—whether snorkeling, stargazing atop Mauna Kea, visiting active volcanoes, or simply resting by the ocean.

200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training Rates & Accommodations

Our training is intentionally priced to be one of the most economical options in Hawai‘i. Most 200-hour programs in the islands charge similar rates for tuition alone, with housing and meals added on top. At Konalani, your tuition includes 16 nights of accommodations, three nourishing meals a day, and full access to an authentic ashram environment. In a state where retreat costs are often two to three times higher than the mainland, we’ve worked hard to keep our rates fair, transparent, and accessible for those who feel called to train in a lineage-based setting.

  • Most 200-hour trainings in Hawai‘i charge similar rates for tuition alone—then add housing, food, and retreat-center fees on top. At Konalani, your tuition already includes 16 nights of lodging, three nourishing meals a day, and full access to an authentic ashram environment. This keeps your training simple, transparent, and all-inclusive.

  • Hawai‘i is one of the most expensive places in the U.S. to run a retreat, with food, utilities, and land costs far higher than the mainland. Even so, we’ve worked hard to keep our rates fair and accessible for dedicated students. Our intention is simple: to make high-quality, lineage-based training available to more people—not just those who can afford luxury retreat pricing.

  • Your tuition covers all training sessions, 16 nights of accommodations, three vegetarian meals a day, and full participation in the rhythm of ashram life. You’ll receive daily yoga, meditation, breathwork, philosophy, practice teaching, and personalized guidance from experienced acharyas—all supported by a community grounded in authentic yogic tradition.

Private / Shared Tent Options

  • Our private canvas cabin tents are spacious, simple, and comfortable—perfect for those who want quiet and personal space while still enjoying the beauty of Hawaiʻi. Each tent is a 10×10 canvas structure with about 7 feet of headroom at the peak and roughly 100 square feet of interior space. They are fully waterproof, well-ventilated, and include a covered canvas lanai that lets air move even during rain. Inside you’ll find a twin bed on a raised frame with full bedding, a vinyl floor, and a small dresser for personal items. Tents are located just 60–100 feet from the main house across a soft lawn, making bathroom and shower access easy at any hour. Hawaiʻi has no dangerous wildlife, and tents are thoroughly cleaned before each guest; keeping your tent zipped ensures a comfortable and safe experience.

  • Our shared cabin tents are the most economical option and offer a bright, airy, and grounded environment for two participants. These tents are larger—about 140 square feet—with two twin beds, each with its own nightstand/dresser. They are fully waterproof with excellent airflow and tall ceilings that create a spacious feel. As with private tents, they are located close to the main house for quick access to bathrooms and showers. Sharing a tent creates a special sense of connection—many students become close friends through this simple, retreat-style living. This option works best for participants who feel comfortable sharing a space and enjoy companionship throughout the training.

  • Choose a private tent if you recharge in solitude, want a quiet personal space between sessions, or know you prefer having your own environment. Choose a shared tent if you’re easygoing, enjoy connection, and feel comfortable living closely with another participant. Shared tents are not recommended for anyone who snores or is a light sleeper, so that both roommates can rest well. Tenting in Hawaiʻi is a beautiful way to experience the land—simple, peaceful, and close to nature, while still being just steps from the main facilities in a safe, gated environment.

Shared Tent — $169 per night

Private Tent — $189 per night

This rate includes the full 200-hour teacher training, 16 nights of accommodations in a private room, and three nourishing vegetarian meals per day.

Shared Bedroom

  • Our shared bedrooms are bright, simple, and thoughtfully arranged to support comfort and calm. Each room includes two twin beds with full bedding, air conditioning, strong natural light, overhead fans, a desk for journaling or study, and plenty of closet space. Sacred art from our lineage adds warmth and inspiration. These rooms are located on the same level as the shared bathrooms, making access easy and convenient.

  • You’ll share this space with one fellow yogi—just two people per room. Many students find that sharing a room adds a special layer of connection to the training. You’re not only learning side by side, you’re sharing a sacred, supportive space that often leads to friendships that last long after the program ends. Choose this option if you enjoy community, feel comfortable sharing, and appreciate the chance to connect with someone walking the same path.

  • A shared room is a great fit if you’re easygoing, enjoy meeting new people, and don’t mind close quarters. It’s not recommended for anyone who snores, or for very light sleepers, so everyone can get the rest they need. If you’re used to dorm-style environments, retreats, or simply enjoy the camaraderie that comes from shared living, this option is a wonderful choice.

Shared Bedroom — $239 per night

This rate includes the full 200-hour teacher training, 16 nights of accommodations in a private room, and three nourishing vegetarian meals per day.

Private Bedroom

  • Our private bedrooms are simple, clean, and designed to support rest and inner focus. Each room includes a comfortable queen bed with full bedding, air-conditioning, strong natural light, overhead fans, and a desk for journaling or study. There is plenty of closet space for your belongings, and the rooms are located on the same level as the shared bathrooms for easy access. Sacred art from the ashram adds a warm and uplifting touch to the space.

  • A private room is ideal if you know you recharge best with personal space, appreciate quiet evenings, or simply want a place to retreat between sessions. It offers the comfort of closing the door, taking personal downtime when you need it, and moving through the training at your own pace. If you’re used to having your own room at home, this option will feel like a natural match.

  • We strongly recommend the private room for anyone who snores, those who are light sleepers, or those who feel more grounded with extra space around them. Having a private room ensures everyone in the training gets the rest they need—both you and your peers. It’s also the best choice for students who value quiet personal time or want an environment that supports deeper reflection and steady self-care.

Konalani Retreats FAQ:

  • Konalani is an authentic yoga ashram on the Big Island of Hawai‘i, rooted in the ShambhavAnanda Yoga lineage. It’s a living community where daily life blends yoga, meditation, selfless service (seva), and time in nature on five acres overlooking the ocean.

  • The ashram is located in Kailua-Kona on the Big Island of Hawai‘i at 77-6484 Sea View Circle, about 15 minutes from downtown Kona and the harbor.

  • This retreat is designed to help you calm your mind, rebuild your body in a sustainable way, and reconnect with community. You’ll experience regenerative yoga, pranayama (breath practices), meditation, sacred ritual, and time on some of Hawai‘i’s most beautiful beaches and trails.

  • No. All practices are accessible for beginners and still meaningful for experienced practitioners. Classes focus on gentle, functional movement and nervous-system down-regulation, rather than extreme or “performance” yoga.

  • Days usually begin with yoga and meditation, followed by breakfast and a short period of seva (simple service). Late mornings and afternoons include workshops or excursions (beach trips, hikes, sacred arts, snorkel outings), with shared meals and quieter time in the evenings. One evening is reserved for a closing gratitude circle.

  • Seva is selfless service — simple tasks like washing dishes, sweeping, or light garden work. On this retreat, it’s about 30 minutes most days and is meant to be mindful and manageable, not heavy labor.

  • The retreat involves light to moderate physical effort: gentle yoga, short hikes on uneven ground, snorkeling, walking on beaches, and going up and down stairs. All activities are optional, and you can always sit out or choose an easier option.

  • Group size is intentionally small and intimate, usually around 15 participants. This allows for personal attention in classes and a close-knit community feel.

  • Accommodations are simple, clean, and designed for rest and inner focus. Options include private bedrooms, shared bedrooms, and “glamping” style canvas cabin tents with real beds and full bedding. All lodging is close to shared bathrooms and the main house.

  • There are two modern shared bathrooms with multiple sinks, toilets, and hot showers available 24/7. They are well-ventilated, well-lit, and kept clean by the community.

  • All meals are vegetarian, home-cooked, and nourishing. The menu includes lots of fresh produce, whole grains, and plant-based proteins, with some dishes inspired by our ashram cookbooks. We can accommodate vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free diets; if you have specific allergies, let us know in advance.

  • No. The ashram is a quiet, retreat-style space. Alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, and recreational drugs are not allowed on the property. We also ask that guests avoid romantic or intimate displays during their stay and respect quiet hours from 8:30 p.m. to 7:15 a.m.

  • High-speed Wi-Fi is available 24/7 in the main buildings. We ask that phones and video calls be kept out of shared practice spaces and off the meal tables so everyone can be present. Many guests purchase a local SIM or use their home carrier’s roaming, but Wi-Fi alone is enough to stay in touch.

  • The retreat includes several guided outings such as beach days at Kua Bay, snorkeling at Kahaluʻu Beach Park, a walk through Kaloko-Honokōhau National Historical Park, a cloud forest hike, and a visit to Kailua-Kona town. There are also on-site workshops like mala making, sacred art painting, core workshops, and sacred ceremony.

  • Yes. During free time, you can arrange additional adventures such as manta ray night snorkels, surf lessons, scuba diving, Mauna Kea stargazing, Volcanoes National Park tours, climbing gyms, or local sports like beach volleyball and ultimate frisbee. These are optional and paid separately to local providers.

  • The retreat is led by resident acharyas (senior teachers) Satyam and Abhaya, who have been guiding trainings and retreats for many years and live full-time at the ashram. Guest teachers and local artists/musicians also support specific sessions.

  • The retreat is offered in English. Basic English is needed to follow classes, safety briefings, and group activities.

  • You’ll fly into Kona International Airport (KOA). From there, it’s about a 20–25 minute drive to the ashram by taxi, rideshare, or rental car. Detailed arrival instructions and options will be provided after registration.

  • We recommend comfortable yoga clothing, a light jacket, swimsuit, reef-safe sunscreen, walking shoes or hiking sandals, a reusable water bottle, and any personal medications or toiletries. Yoga mats and props are provided on site.
