Day 6•A Living Tradition

One of the priceless and living aspects of the Shambhavananda Yoga tradition is the presence of a living teacher: His Holiness Rishi Mahamandaleshwar Sri Shambhavananda, whom we endearingly call Babaji. By entering the ashram environment, you are not automatically taking on the role of a formal student, nor are you required to establish a personal teacher-student relationship. However, you are entering a space where this sacred relationship exists, and where a certain respect for it is necessary, even if it is not ultimately your path.

In today’s video, we take time to explain this dynamic in more detail, helping you understand both the spirit of the relationship and the expectations surrounding it. For some, this is an extraordinary opportunity. For others, it may simply not resonate—and that’s okay. As always, we present what we have to give, and trust you to discern whether it feels like the right fit for you.

After the video, you’re invited to take part in a two-part breath pranayama practice with Abhaya, along with a simple visualization and stillness practice. As we move deeper into the 30-day journey, the meditation practices will gradually become more profound and layered. For now, our focus is simply on helping you find your seat, settle your body, and build a foundation for deeper stillness. If you’re eager for more advanced practices, stay tuned—they’re coming soon!

Journey Question of the Day:
The idea of a Guru is foreign in the west.  What is your initial reaction to this concept?  It’s okay if you have no experience of having a Guru, but do you feel comfortable being in a setting where the Respect for the Guru is completely foundational?  Did anything in this video make you uncomfortable?  If so, that’s okay, but better that we talk about your reactions now than experience them once you have arrived in Hawaii 🙏🏽
