Lecture 2: Unmeśa, the Space of Transition

Unmesha: Becoming the space of transition

The yogic tradition calls the space between two experiences, like the space between two shakti flows, the Unmesha. When one is able to maintain their awareness through this transitional space one's overall awareness expands.

We all know the feeling in our lives, when something great is coming to an end, like a dinner, or a show, or time with friends as the sunsets, there is a tendency to want to hold on to it, or to immediately distract ourselves with something new.

“When one is engaged in one thought, and another arises, the junction point esteem the two are unmeshas”

As always, the creation happens suddenly, and we must be prepared to receive it. “A creative moment, not a thought but a flash of understanding, opening, uncovering”

We can explore this space consciously and cosmically in our yoga practice when we come to the end of a shakti flow-- feel the experience coming to a close, feel the unknown space you are approaching, and try to slow down and keep feeling with the present as you approach it.

Literally move slower, feel more, and become receptive. Become a part of this in-between space, lean into it so to speak, instead of trying to prevent it or rush it.
