Day 2 ∞ A Day in the Life

In today’s class, we take a deeper dive into the schedule you’ll encounter as you embark on the work-study program at Konalani. As we’ve shared before, this way of living isn’t for everyone. We are a high-level, high-functioning ashram: we meditate before the sun rises, we dedicate full days to selfless service, and we enjoy meaningful time together as a thriving spiritual community. Our life here is fueled by practice, by shared purpose, and by a sincere wish to grow.

That said, this path asks a lot—and it gives a lot.

The general expectation for work-study participants is a commitment of three to six months. Within that stay, you’ll be participating in our full-time schedule: six days a week of selfless service, one day off, and regular participation in all key practices and community programs. The full details are outlined in the video below.

For those who aren’t able to stay the full three to six months, we offer a different version of the program that still allows you to participate in ashram life and receive deep benefit from your time here.

In this part-time format:

  • Your seva (selfless service) will run half-days, typically beginning after breakfast and ending at lunch.

  • This allows for more free time in the afternoons to explore the island or rest.

  • The part-time opportunity comes with a monthly tuition of $1,000, which covers your housing, meals, utilities, meditation and yoga classes, and all spiritual teachings during your stay.

  • Your contribution directly supports the ashram’s mission and goes primarily toward groceries, gas, and other essential expenses that help make your stay possible.

Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions about these options or want help discerning what’s best for you.

Now, take a few minutes to watch the video outlining the schedule and expectations. Then, join us for a simple walking meditation to integrate what you’ve learned. And as always, pause and reflect with the question of the day.
