Strength, Purpose, and Wisdom for Your Path
There are many unique challenges that accompany military life. From frequent moves and life interruptions to the long seasons of uncertainty during deployment, the stressors can quickly compound and impact your quality of life. Our Yoga Teacher Training is designed to offer you an opportunity to invest in yourself, build a portable career grounded in wellness, and become part of a supportive community rooted in mindfulness, resilience, and personal growth.
For many military spouses, having a meaningful focus during a deployment can make a profound difference. Immersing yourself in a dedicated course of study, daily yoga practice, meditation, and community can offer structure, connection, and tools to help you navigate life's transitions with greater steadiness. You'll learn practices that support stress management, self-awareness, and emotional regulation while gaining the knowledge and confidence to share those tools with others.
Whether your goal is to teach yoga in your next duty station, offer online classes, lead wellness programs with fellow military spouses, or deepen your own practice, you'll graduate with the skills and certification that can travel wherever military life leads. If you're eligible for the SpouseWorks program, this may be the perfect opportunity to invest in both your personal well-being and your professional future.

Konalani Yoga Ashram is part of a rich, living spiritual tradition and many military spouses feel surprisingly at home within it. Ashram life shares a similar structure to military life: waking early, working with purpose, living in community, and moving together toward a shared mission rather than just a shared goal. That rhythm of discipline, respect, and attention to purpose is something many of our military spouse students recognize immediately.
-
Our style of yoga and meditation is unique in that it centers on calming and regulating the nervous system through natural movement. Much of the yoga world swings between extremes - overly stretchy, overly aggressive, or so slow it puts you to sleep. Our practice is different: we use postures to cultivate real strength deep in the core of the body while generating natural flexibility and range of motion, repatterning the way you move rather than forcing your body into a shape. It's gentle, but strong in its capacity to change your movement pathways for good - and in that process, it regulates both breath and mind.
-
This style of yoga calms the mind and strengthens the body - and it's one of the most powerful tools we know for working with stress and finding your true center. Many styles of yoga claim this as their goal; ours gets you there because we take the time to build natural movement pathways that meet you where you are, rather than asking you to force your head to your knees. We use the practice as a way to focus the mind and turn attention inward. Our breathing practices help regulate your nervous system through breath alone - gentle, scientifically supported techniques that anyone can do, drawn from a multi-thousand-year tradition of yoga.
-
The meditation practices you'll learn aren't simply techniques - they're empowered practices handed down through a living lineage, kept alive by practitioners who use them every single day. The teachers guiding your training aren't instructors who show up to teach a class and go home. They live at the ashram, practice daily, and have personally trained hundreds — even thousands — of other practitioners. Investing in a Konalani teacher training is an investment in something far greater than a certification: your own physical and mental health, and the capacity to guide others not just toward recovery, but toward real resilience - not just surviving, but thriving.
-
What sets Konalani apart from most yoga teacher trainings is a genuine, heartfelt community of practitioners - not built around looks, age, or even shared interests, but around a shared wish to grow and to use one's life in service of that growth and the growth of others. It's a diverse community where you truly feel safe and supported, one that often starts to feel like an extension of your own family. Some of our practitioners have been on this path for forty or fifty years, others for ten or twenty, and others are just beginning. Some visit the ashram once a year or once every few years; others come multiple times annually. Our online community meets live multiple times a week for yoga, philosophy, and meditation, gathers quarterly for meditation intensives, and comes together annually to deepen training. It's a community that exists purely to support growth - both your own, and each other's.

Training Formats - In Hawaii & Online
Your SpouseWorks scholarship can be used toward three different training formats at Konalani, so you can choose the path that fits your life. Our 300-hour Yoga Teacher Training series is available both as an in-person retreat in Hawaiʻi and as a live online training. Our 200-hour Foundational Yoga Teacher Training is available both as an in-person retreat in Hawaiʻi and as an asynchronous, self-paced mentorship program. Every format delivers the same depth of training and certification, and produces the same caliber of teacher — and all are approved and registered with the SpouseWorks scholarship program. Read below for a closer look at how each of these three trainings works.
In Hawaii Group Training
Join a small group of dedicated students for an immersive training on the Big Island of Hawaiʻi. Bask in the Shakti of the Ashram and the Hawaiian sunshine, just minutes from the ocean, with daily yoga, meditation, philosophy, and community connection guided by experienced teachers. Shared meals, structured practice, and space to explore give you the support and inspiration to deepen your path and awaken something real within you.
Live Online Training
This live online format is perfect for students in our 300-hour series who want to stay deeply engaged while learning from home. You'll join a community of dedicated students and meet weekly with experienced acharyas for live instruction, feedback, and mentorship — a structure that keeps you accountable and connected, with a near 99% graduation rate. It's a powerful, inspiring way to grow your practice in community.
Self-Paced + Mentorship
This self-paced format is perfect for those completing their 200-hour training on a flexible schedule, with lifetime access to professionally produced video content and guided practices. Unlike most self-paced courses, this training is built around ongoing, personalized mentorship — your instructor responds directly to your teaching assignments, and you'll have real-time support through our Marco Polo Video platform. It's a deeply personal experience that's helped produce some of the most skilled and embodied teachers we've seen.

SpouseWorks Teacher Training Testimonials
“When my husband was deployed and then away for months of training, Konalani Yoga Ashram’s yoga teacher training became my anchor. With the assistance of the SpouseWorks military spouse scholarship, I could join this wonderful program with peace of mind. The instructors checked in with me, adjusted schedules, created alternate assignment options when I needed flexibility, and created such a nurturing space that I never once felt alone—even while solo-parenting through those long stretches. By the end, I not only understood yoga on a much deeper level, but I walked away a calmer, more confident teacher, carrying the steady support with me every time I step onto the mat.”

What is SpouseWorks and how do I use it for a Yoga Teacher Training?
SpouseWorks (formerly known as MyCAA, the My Career Advancement Account) is a War Department scholarship that helps military spouses reach their career goals and develop meaningful skills, offering up to $4,000 in tuition assistance. Konalani Yoga's teacher training programs are an ideal way to use this benefit and build a life-changing yoga and meditation practice. Our trainings welcome students at all levels of experience—whether you're just beginning or ready to deepen your path. ShambhavAnanda Yoga was one of the first teacher-training programs in the United States, and our curriculum has been refined for over 30 years to give you a clear, functional, and grounded understanding of the body, breath, movement patterns, and the heart of yogic practice.
How the SpouseWorks Process Works Fill out the simple application below. We will create an ETP (Education and Training Plan) form for you to submit to your SpouseWorks/SECO advisor. Your advisor will either approve the form or request small adjustments. We're happy to revise it and send it back as needed. Once the ETP is approved, you're officially enrolled in the training. After you complete the program, SpouseWorks pays Konalani directly.
