The Practice of Pure Awareness: Shiva Sutra 3.8 Conclusion

Imagine you had a rose in your hand. Lift it up and take a breath in through the nose to smell it. A conscious breath like that yields the scent of pure awareness. Imagine if you could sustain that kind of awareness throughout your day— a practice like that has the potential to transform your world into a rose garden. Which is exactly the sentiment at the heart of Shiva Sutra 3.8—  the waking state become a ray of universal consciousness.

How do we arrive at such a state? With practice. The practice of consciously doing less in order to experience what’s all around you. What’s fascinating about this process is that when you stop doing doing doing, life starts blooming blooming blooming.

And even though it may seem that we are letting go of our precious thoughts, plans and schemes in order to remain in the present, we soon feel ourselves being filled from within with the contentment we were seeking.

Because as the Sutra concludes, “The nature of the self is awareness. When awareness is held, everything is held.”

So take another whiff of pure awareness… It’s time to practice.
