We should all “Embody” the poses a little differently…
Your body is an intelligent machine, complete with sensors, processors and connective tissue that navigate you through life with ease and joy. An Embodied Yoga Practice helps awaken this intelligence, allowing it to start participating in your life again. The current “shape-based” yoga paradigm that stretches the body according to angles to ‘achieve’ a certain pose has led to an epidemic in yoga injuries and a misunderstanding of yoga’s innate purpose. New research in fascia and functional movement patterns are validating what Yogi’s have always known— the practice of yoga is a fluid experience of exploration that requires constant inner attention, and simply can’t be commanded from the outside-in. Simply put: You as a student have to participate in every moment of your practice to make it a practice— your teacher can’t tell you exactly what to do. The result of such attentive work yields increases in range of motion, injury prevention, functional strength, mental awareness, and more.
Yoga is Creativity
We believe that each posture of your yoga practice, as well as the overall sequence itself, is a work of art, not a memorized script. Stepping on your mat generates a creative spark when you approach yoga in this way, and paves the way for a life long practice in all settings and scenarios. Your 200 Hour Hawaii Ashram Yoga Teacher Training at Konalani will show you how to make each of your postures new all through, every time you do them, and to create infinitely unique sequences that will inspire you and your students for a lifetime.
Yoga is Meditation
It’s something alot of people say, but very few know how to do. To make Yoga a Meditative Practice requires more than just reading a quote, or ringing a bell— The instructor must have a deep and consistent meditation practice herself, derived from a living spiritual tradition. She must also learn how to incorporate her practice skillfully into her cueing strategy. Your 200 Hour Ashram Yoga Training will empower you with this gift through guided meditation and yoga philosophy, as well as workshops and techniques specifically geared to help you teach from the heart, not the head. The path may be challenging, but the rewards are Cosmic.
An Authentic Spiritual Tradition
The ShambhavAnanda Yoga Tradition spans 4 generations of meditation masters and over a century of living tradition. The roots of ShambhavAnanda Meditation are in the Kashmir Shaivite tradition of Northern India, which sees every living thing as an expression of God Consciousness— a sentiment often summarized as “there is nothing that exists that is not Shiva (The Inner Self)”. Your 200 hour yoga ashram teacher training will show you how to use your meditation practice to transmute your daily challenges into fuel for your spiritual growth by establishing a daily meditation practice, and learning to use that practice as you work, teach and enjoy your life.
A Living Practices You Can Trust
The meditation practices you learn in your 200 hour yoga ashram teacher training here in Hawaii are Chaitanya practices, which in Sanskrit means ‘living practices’. They were handed down from teacher to student, and empowered with Shakti, over years of focused practice. Your instructors are Yoga Acharyas, empowered by ShambhavAnanda himself to teach you the practice. You will be given the lineage mantra of ShambhavAnanda Yoga, a mantra handed down through 4 generations of Siddha Yogis. You will be taught how to meditate on your breath in order to access the pulsing life force within, and to open your heart through visualization and inner focus. Most importantly, though, you can rest assured that the practices you receive in your 200 hour yoga teacher training have stood the test of time, and are worth the time it takes to master them.
Teaching from the Heart
As a yoga teacher, the most powerful thing you can give your future students isn’t your words, but your state of being. ShambhavAnanda Yoga believes that a teacher’s inner focus and spiritual depth is what really nourishes their class, and establishing a meditation practice is the most fundamental thing you can do to achieve that. Meditation is absolutely possible for everyone, you just need a safe space to practice, empowered teachings and the guidance of true spiritual practitioners— all of which await you here at Konalani Yoga Ashram in your 200 hour Hawaii yoga teacher training.
Decades of Curriculum Refined over Thousands of Trainings.
Talented Teachers Yield Talented Teachers
Your Instructors, Abhaya and Satyam, are Honors graduates from Georgetown and Depaul University, and are particularly good at communicating complex ideas in a simple way. They work hard to break concepts down to the bare essentials, and build up comprehension layer by layer. They believe that each training should surpass the previous training, becoming more efficient and clearer every step of the way. They are also Acharya’s in the ShambhavAnanda Yoga tradition, a very special title that was bestowed on them by ShambhavAnanda that enables them to pass down the teachings of the lineage, and ensures the quality of their presence.

They are also Honors graduates from their respective Universities and truly love the art of clear communication and take great joy in being effective teachers. The tradition of the Ashram always prioritizes the sacredness of the student teacher relationship. This means that we keep the classes small, give personalized feedback, take time for mentoring talks during the training, and remain available always for that level of communication after graduation. It’s the Ashram way— the teacher student relationship is a sacred vessel, and it’s one we take very seriously and strive to hold to the highest possible standards.
Satyam discovered yoga while in college, finding it not only to be a relief for his scoliosis, but also for his busy mind— and after graduating with Honors from DePaul University in 2005, he moved into the ashram and never looked back. He has a healthy sense of humor, but “doesn’t know how to prove that in this particular online setting.” He also loves dance and movement practices, having practiced ballet, contemporary dance, and improvisational movement. He is supremely grateful to be able to study under his teacher, Sri Shambhavananda, and to be able to live in the ashram where hard work, heart work and art work go hand in hand, and one’s inner growth is always at the forefront.
She graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Political Science from Georgetown University and brings that level of precision and intelligence to the yoga teacher training environment. She has made an incredible journey from the realm of the mind to the realm of the body and spirit, and seeks to help her students along that path themselves, and to have a little fun along the way. She has lead over Thirty 200-Hr yoga teacher trainings! She loves practicing yoga outside with music, playing her Ukulele, swimming in the ocean, and cooking without any recipes.
