Day 22 • The Subtle Power of Puraka & Rechaka
In keeping with our breath-centered theme, today we explore one of the most foundational yet subtle pranayamas in the yogic tradition: Puraka Rechaka. These Sanskrit terms simply mean inhale and exhale, but the practice itself is far from simple—it asks for refined attention, sensitivity, and presence.
We’ll begin with a teaching overview of this powerful practice, followed by an in-depth guided experience to help you attune to the natural rhythm of your breath and ride its waves inward.
Today also includes a special guided meditation using the Hamsa breath mantra—a classic mantra of natural awareness—alongside Shambhavi Mudra, the open-eyed internal gaze that is a signature of the ShambhavAnanda lineage. This is a rich and expansive day of practice, inviting you to become more deeply aware of what is always moving inside you.
Journey Question of the Day:
How would you describe the physical and subtle sensations of the inhale and the Exhale? What was your experience of the open eyed approach to meditation, the Shambhavi Mudra?
