Day 18 • Ujjayi – The Breath of Steadiness
Today we dive into one of the most well-known pranayamas: Ujjayi breathing. When practiced correctly, Ujjayi helps calm the mind, regulate breath flow, and create a gentle internal focus that supports both meditation and movement. But when practiced poorly… well, let’s just say we’ve all heard that one guy in yoga class whose breath is loud enough to drown out the instructor. That’s not what we’re after here.
You’ll begin with an overview of Ujjayi pranayama, learning how to approach it with subtlety and precision. Then, we’ll guide you through an in-depth practice to help you internalize the breath’s rhythm and refine your technique.
To conclude, we’ll move into Japa mantra meditation, followed by a heart-centered meditation on the wish to grow—a meaningful complement to your recent work with the heart and the teachings of Swami Rudrananda.
